About the treatment

A dental implant is an artificial root, usually made of titanium, placed in the jawbone. It supports a crown or bridge to replace missing teeth. Its integration with bone is called osseointegration. At Trita Dent, planning considers the bone, gums, bite and final restoration.

When might it be considered?

Implants may be considered when one or more teeth are missing. Your dentist assesses bone, gums and medical history. They are not suitable for everyone; bridges or removable dentures may be alternatives.

How is treatment planned?

Treatment starts with an examination of your teeth, gums and bite. At Trita Dent, scanning and 3D planning help determine the position of the implant and its restoration. Following any preparatory care, the implant is placed in the jawbone under local anaesthesia. As the site heals, bone integrates with the implant surface. An impression is then taken for the crown or bridge, and its fit, colour and bite contacts are checked before fitting.

Aftercare and limitations

Cleaning around the implant and regular check-ups help keep the surrounding tissues healthy. Your dentist demonstrates cleaning beneath the restoration and checks its bite and stability. Bleeding, swelling or a loose restoration need assessment. Longevity is influenced by hygiene, smoking, general health and maintenance.

Timing and costs

Your plan and quotation are determined after examination. Complexity, materials, preliminary treatment and follow-up visits affect timing and cost. Ask for a written plan explaining what is included.

Questions about this treatment

Does every missing tooth need an implant?

Not always. Several replacement teeth can be supported by implants at selected positions. Anatomy and the prosthetic design determine their number.

How many visits are needed?

Assessment, implant placement and the crown may be separate stages. Gum or bone treatment can extend the plan. Ask for an individual schedule before travelling.

What are the alternatives?

Depending on the gap and remaining teeth, a bridge or removable denture may be considered. Compare maintenance as well as the initial cost.
