About the treatment

Orthodontics addresses tooth position and the relationship between the jaws. Fixed braces or aligners may be considered according to the problem, age and cooperation required throughout treatment.

When might it be considered?

Crowding, gaps or bite problems may warrant an orthodontic assessment. Gum health and oral hygiene are part of the initial check.

How is treatment planned?

An examination, photographs and impressions are used to plan tooth movements and the final bite. Fixed braces work through brackets and wires, while aligners apply force through a sequence of fitted trays. Progress is reviewed at regular appointments and adjustments are made. Once the planned position is reached, retainers are made to help maintain it.

Aftercare and limitations

A retainer is usually needed afterwards to help maintain tooth position. Inadequate cleaning can lead to staining or decay. Discuss discomfort, limitations and risks before starting.

Timing and costs

Your plan and quotation are determined after examination. Complexity, materials, preliminary treatment and follow-up visits affect timing and cost. Ask for a written plan explaining what is included.

Questions about this treatment

Why is a retainer needed?

Teeth can move again. A retainer and reviews help maintain their position according to your orthodontist’s instructions.

Can adults be treated too?

Age is not the only factor. Gum health, bone support and the required movements determine suitability.

Are aligners suitable for every case?

No. Some movements or bite problems need other appliances or specialist assessment. Availability of a proposed system is confirmed at consultation.
