About the treatment

Bone grafting aims to improve bone volume where implant support is insufficient. Techniques and materials vary with the size and location of the deficiency.

When might it be considered?

Assessment considers bone dimensions, surrounding tissues and general health. Not every missing tooth requires a graft; another restorative approach may be more suitable.

How is treatment planned?

Imaging shows bone height and width at the planned implant site. Where grafting is needed, material is placed in the deficient area and may be covered with a protective membrane. A sinus lift may be needed in the upper jaw. The wound is closed and healing monitored; the implant is placed during the same procedure or later, depending on the available support.

Aftercare and limitations

Swelling and discomfort may occur. Infection or inadequate healing can change the plan. Follow the surgeon’s instructions and clarify the postoperative review before arranging your return journey.

Timing and costs

Your plan and quotation are determined after examination. Complexity, materials, preliminary treatment and follow-up visits affect timing and cost. Ask for a written plan explaining what is included.

Questions about this treatment

Does a graft guarantee an implant?

No. Healing and the resulting volume need review before the plan continues.

Is the same material used for every graft?

No. Material and technique depend on the defect and plan. You can ask about the material’s source and alternatives before deciding.

Will treatment take longer?

A healing and reassessment stage may be added. Timing depends on the procedure and tissue response, not just travel dates.
